“It makes me new and alive”
“Travelling makes me know more about myself and other people. It expands my imagination.”
“I forget about the bills, my boss and deadlines.”
The comments above were gathered from young South Africans when asked by South African Tourism what they feel about travelling South Africa.
“SA Tourism’s Sho’t Left campaign is based on easy, affordable fun with friends and how taking a Sho’t Left is about expanding your mind and discovering new experiences,” says Phumi Dhlomo, Regional Director Africa and Domestic.
One of the key imperatives of the Sho’t Left campaign is to communicate the personal rewards to be derived from travel. It’s a message that has hit home, and the research shows that young South Africans now travel to ease their stress levels and experience the wonder and excitement of discovering new places and meeting new people. Taking a short break from routine, many of them have found, is revitalizing – good for your health and well-being.
Encouraging a strong culture of travel among all young up and coming South Africans is vital in building a resilient and sustainable tourism industry in South Africa.
South Africa must not solely rely on foreign arrivals to grow our industry. South Africans must see themselves as travelers in their own country, too, says Dhlomo.
With the FIFA Confederations Cup kicking off now is the time for South Africans to go out and support the games and the tourist attractions available in the cities where the games are being played.
With only 40% of our domestic travelers taking advantage of a holiday in South Africa, it is important that we continue to invest in domestic tourism by showcasing the abundant selection of diverse holiday experiences the country has to offer.
“Let us travel our country in order to show it off with confidence to our guests from all over the world.” concludes Dhlomo.
