The five-star Mont Rochelle Hotel & Mountain Vineyards in Franschhoek, will host its annual Harvest Festival on Saturday 20 March. In the wake of the successful inaugural Harvest Festival 2009, this exclusive event will provide an intimate, hands-on harvesting experience for a limited number of guests only, at R420 per person.
The harvest fun will start at 8h00 with freshly brewed coffee and pastries, followed by grape-picking among the lush vineyards. Thereafter the fun gains momentum, with a stint of traditional grape stomping, followed by tastings of the delicious juice-of-the-vine. Winemaker Dustin Osborne will then take guests on a fascinating tour of the wine cellar, proffering a taste of Mont Rochelle's wines 'in the making'. Lunch takes the form of a delicious, traditional South African Braai (Barbeque), in the picturesque garden setting of the Country Kitchen terrace, with the lively sounds of master accordionist Eric Cloete, taking you on a foot-tapping journey around the world.
Guests may then test their physical prowess in fine French style, with a round of boules, during which impromptu teams will be called upon to bravely defend their title. To commemorate this perfect day, guests will receive a Mont Rochelle Harvest T-shirt on arrival and an exclusive gift of a specially labeled bottle of Mont Rochelle wine, to take home as a memento.
Advance booking is essential. For reservations contact Mont Rochelle Hotel & Mountain Vineyards on (021) 876-2770, or email sales@montrochelle.co.za or visit www.montrochelle.co.za

The third annual Franschhoek Oesfees (harvest festival), a rousing feast of Cape music and lekker kaapsekos, will be held at the Solms-Delta wine estate on Saturday, 27 March 2010, with an exciting line-up of local favourites.
One of the great highlights of the Winelands calendar, this inclusive festival celebrates the hard work of the Valley’s farmworkers, with an outstanding showcase of local musicians which this year will be even bigger and better than ever before.
The thrilling line-up of top-class performers includes Emo Adams - the witty Cape Flats born-and-bred actor and singer of “District 6: The Musical” fame, and The Radio Kalahari Orkes that incorporates the unlikely musical talents of actor Ian Roberts and writer/poet Rian Malan. Adams recently released his fast-selling CD, “Tall, Dark and Afrikaans” and the Radio Kalahari Orkes with its music born from solid working class Afrikaans roots with classic Roberts’ tongue-in-cheek and razor-sharp social commentary, is receiving widespread acclaim.
On the homefront, Les Javan, acknowledged as one of Cape Town’s great composers and artist in residence at Solms-Delta’s Music van de Caab, will be on stage with his band Nonspesifiek. And adding their own toe-tapping brand of Cape vernacular music will be Solms-Delta’s women’s choir the Delta Soetstemme; a brass, guitar and vocal ensemble, the Delta Langbroek Band; the Delta Bluestars brass and klopse band and the evergreen locals, the Papier Family Langarm Band.
No Franschhoek Oesfees would be the same without old favourites, legendary spoon-wielding slide guitarist Hannes Coetzee and Cape Jazz king, Robbie Jansen. And guaranteed to have everyone dancing up a storm, the infectious rhythms of the boeremusiek of Negosiegoed; traditional story-telling in song and dance by Jakobus & Hester Cloete, Pieter van der Westhuizen & Tannie Grietjie and the Rieldanse champions from Grabouw and Witzenberg; Ghoema Jazz of ‘national gem’ Mac McKenzie and his Ghoema orchestra. The Franschhoek Oesfees is a feel-good event that reminds you why it is great to be South African, and especially a Kaapenaar.
The 2010 Franschhoek Oesfees, in association with ATKV, takes place on Saturday 27 March, from 11am until 9pm at Solms-Delta Wine Estate - Delta Road, off the R45, Franschhoek Valley (40 minutes from Cape Town). Gates open at 10am.
Tickets are available through webtickets.co.za, at the farm or Franschhoek Tourism office for R160.00 per person, which includes a R60 meal voucher. Food stalls will serve traditional kaapsekos throughout the day, and a cash bar for wine and soft drinks will be available. Entry is free for children under six and half price for under 12yrs. See www.solms-delta.co.za for videos of 2008 and 2009 events and further details.
If you love books and beautiful surroundings then you’ll feel right at home at the Franschhoek Literary Festival. See a host of South African and award-winning international authors speak about their passion in venues throughout the village.
They say that words make their own music. When these words are strung together by a writer they develop a magical quality that plays out in a melody, engulfing you in its entirety.

We’d like to introduce people to the secret places not usually associated with Franschhoek, or that visitors seldom find, exposing them – and our friends and neighbours – to the exceptional talent to be found in our valley.
The idea is to present learning experiences, classes, demonstrations and skills development every weekend in June, bringing people here to enjoy the increasingly popular short breaks that add value and new dimensions to busy lives.
All Bookings are done Directly with the Various Establishments but for any additional information please call Darielle Craddock, Franschhoek Events Co-ordinator on 021 876 2861
Franschhoek, being the French Corner of South Africa, celebrates Bastille Day with reckless abandon. In fact, we like to commemorate our forefathers by celebrating for an entire weekend. We might add that it’s also the only day in the year that you can get away with wearing a beret.
Highlights of the Bastille Festival include a Food & Wine Marquee, a French Film Festival, the Chef’s & Waiters Race, Pêtanque, the Barrel Rolling competition and lots more!
After a long, cold winter everyone in Franschhoek looks forward to the first day of spring. We’re a town that believes in celebrating and spring is definitely something worth celebrating.
To honor the beginning of this important, and much warmer, season we throw a town wide party. We’ve called this festival Franschhoek Uncorked. It’s a celebration of life and the perfect time for all the Valley’s highly esteemed wineries to showcase their new vintages and releases.
So, come and spend an exciting weekend in Franschhoek, or just visit for the day!
Visit 10 of Franschhoek's most spectacular gardens as they burst into bloom this summer.
Be sure not to miss this year’s Franschhoek ‘Magic of Bubbles’ Cap Classique and Champagne Festival, taking place over the weekend of the 3rd to the 5th of December, and for the fifth year running, this social calendar highlight is happening in Franschhoek.
Proving to be the ideal host for this festival, the largest of its kind in the country allowing visitors the opportunity to sample both Champagne and Cap Classique wines, Franschhoek offers visitors a unique combination of French heritage and South African winelands.
Some of France’s best Champagne will be tasted alongside the finest Cap Classiques to emerge from the wine cellars of South Africa. The winemaking method is virtually the same, so it comes down simply to the terroir and skill of the winemakers.
The centrepiece of the festival will be a grand marquee on the sprawling lawns surrounding Franschhoek’s famous Huguenot Monument, where bubbly stalls will be interspersed with stalls from the local restaurants offering delicious delicacies to match.
