Venue:
The country’s ‘gourmet capital’ will once again, over the weekend of December 6 and 7, from noon to sunset, host the country’s largest Cap Classique and Champagne Festival, boasting an impressive array of celebrated Cap Classique producers as well as showcasing some of the finest French Champagne Houses. Last year’s bold initiative in hosting the inaugural Franschhoek Cap Classique and Champagne Festival, the ‘Magic of Bubbles’, revealed that perceptions have shifted. ‘No longer perceived as a drink reserved only for special occasions, but a chic replacement for the conventional alcoholic beverage, bubbly is spurting forth popularity with panache!’, says Itumeleng Pooe, CEO of the Franschhoek Wine Valley Tourist Association. Highly-acclaimed Champagnes such as Billecart Salmon, Mumm and Laurent Perrier have already secured their bookings; as well as popular Cap Classiques like Graham Beck, Krone, Môreson, Pierre Jourdan, Simonsig and Villiera. This year the festivities are taking place at a new venue, Franschhoek’s Huguenot Monument. And what a venue it will be – a stylishly-decorated grand marquee will grace the lush green lawns surrounding Franschhoek’s landmark. The bubbly stalls will be intermingled with a wide variety of food stands where Franschhoek’s leading restaurants will be offering specially-prepared delicacies to enjoy with bubbles. Oysters, salmon, strawberries and foie gras are just some of the epicurean delights on offer at this gastronomic extravaganza. And outside, visitors can relax at parasol-topped tables and chairs. Entrance to the bubbly tasting costs R150 per head, and includes a Champagne flute tasting glass and a book of bubbly tasting vouchers. Franschhoek’s best restaurants will be opening their doors to visitors and compiling special menus to complement the bubbly, so come along and satiate your senses with the Valley’s unrivalled excellent cuisine. A shopper’s paradise, Franschhoek’s many stylish boutiques beckon festive-season shoppers! Bubbly will also be on sale throughout the revelry, a perfect Christmas gift. So, pop the corks, fill the flutes and sip on the fizz of so-fizz-tication as the Valley ‘bubbles over’ with: music, beautiful people, vintage cars, the ultimate in cuisine, a vibrant ambience and shimmering splendour!
