Nestled between the slopes of the Groot Drakenstein Mountains in the Franschhoek Valley, you’ll find the Bellingham manor house. Founded in 1693, Bellingham has been the home of intriguing wines with its own unique and charming character. It was here, more than 350 years ago that virgin soil was tilled and the first vines planted. Since then, Bellingham winemakers have lovingly nurtured the vines and carefully crafted wines of great character.

We came to Franschhoek from the UK in April 2001 having purchased Auberge La Dauphine. In September 2002 we acquired the small adjoining vineyard with established Merlot vines in desperate need of care and attention. In February 2003 a small harvest was picked. It was processed & put into just 2 barrels by us with expert advice & guidance from Dominic Burke the award winning wine maker at La Corounne.
After 20 months maturing in the barrels, 445 bottles were filled and the result – a powerful full-bodied but soft Merlot, high alcohol – has been enjoyed by family and friends.

A Cape Legends showpiece, this 974 hectare estate in Simondium, Paarl, has earned international acclaim for its white and red wines. Winemaker Niel Bester attributes the benefit of working with Paul Pontallier of Chateau Margeaux fame, in producing classically styled but accessible wines. This would summarise the efforts of all involved in this historical farm dating back to 1693.

It all started in 1958, when Billy and Joy Kruger bought property near Franschhoek. Michelle, their daughter met her future husband Johan at school there. After some years away, Michelle and Johan bought their own property near Franschhoek, which they called Mont Michele.
The first red wine produced at Mont Michele Cellar is called “Circle of Joy”, to commemorate Michelle’s late mother Joy and the closing of the circle which had begun 50 years before.
