Franschhoek Wine Valley - Tourism Association

Umdiliya

Umdiliya, meaning grapes in Xhosa, is an empowerment programme initiated by Franschhoek Wine Valley Tourist Association in 2005. The aim is to alleviate unemployment rates in the valley and at the same time create a pool of qualified employees for Franschhoek establishments to choose from.

This SETA accredited course consists of theoretical and practical training over 2 months concentrating on front of house, housekeeping, waitron, wine, kitchen knowledge and most importantly service skills.

Twenty individuals qualify to do the Umdiliya course every year and the aim is to have them all graduated and employed at completion.
